Free acoustic concert scheduled in Harrison Hills Park

Jimbo Jackson will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Yakaon Shelter of Harrison Hills Park, Freeport Road, Harrison.

The concert is part of the Allegheny County Park Acoustic Series. A short activity with park rangers will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

School supplies wanted by A-R Education Foundation

Apollo-Ridge Education Foundation is sponsoring a school supply collection drive through Aug. 17.

Items needed include pencils, block erasers, lunch boxes, hand sanitizer, book bags, pencil top erasers, pens, Crayola crayons, 3-hole notebook paper, tissues and Post-It notes. Donations should be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Aug. 17 at the high school entrance B – administration. For details, email Jamie Laws at [email protected].

Thursday: The free Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Thunder Summer Music Series will feature the Jimmy Adler Blues Band at 7 p.m. Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way. Gates open at 6 p.m., rain or shine. There is free parking, and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks are permitted.

No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Aug. 23: The Kitchen Sink Book Club at Community Library of Allegheny Valley will meet at 6 p.m. at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. The selection will be “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
